BQ25703A: How to set the REG0x35[7] (EN_OTG) properly?

Part Number: BQ25703A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987DDJ, , TPS65987D

The BQ25703A  and TPS65987DDJ are used together in my system.

Register 0x35[7] needs to be programmed to enable OTG mode.

I am littler confused, OTG is enabled  after power on (SLVAE18), so the BQ25073A is OTG  status.

If I put a adapter power in when  the BQ25073A being OTG status,Will this operation damage the BQ25703A?

Should I set disable the OTG when power on reset?

  • Hi,

You might want to post the same question onto the USB/PD forum, but the TPS65987D should control the power path so that there is never a situation where the BQ25703A in OTG mode is shorted to another power source.  TPS65987D has internal switches as well as drives for controlling an external switch.  This internal or external switch is between BQ25703A and VBUS.  On initial connection, TPS65987D should keep this power path switch open so that BQ25703A is not connected to VBUS.  Only after the type-C port establishes the roles of source and sink would the switch be closed.  If it is an internal switch, it should also have reverse-current protection as a secondary protection in case the attached device for some reason violated its power role.

    Regards,
