TPS23755: Reference design for 5V output

Part Number: TPS23755
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS23758, TPS23758EVM-080, UCC24612

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to test EVM with 5V output, but TI got only 12Vout EVM version, is there any 5Vout version EVM?

If not, then is there any reference design?

Thank you.

C.T.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for your question.

We do not have a 5V output design with the TPS23755, however, we do have a 5V output design with the TPS23758. For your 5V output Type 1 application, I recommend ordering the TPS23758EVM-080 for evaluation.

This is because, in general, the TPS23755 is designed and recommended for 12V or higher output voltage applications in order to maintain regulation accuracy without the need for an opto-coupler. In general, the TPS23758 is designed and recommended to be used in 5V or less output voltage applications in order to maintain regulation accuracy without the need for an opto-coupler.

Please let me know if having any additional questions and thank you for considering Texas Instruments PoE products.

  • Hi Brett,

Thanks for your help, may I ask what parameter(in datasheet) makes TPS23755 is more suitable for 12V output?

And  what parameter(in datasheet) makes TPS23758 is more suitable for 5V output?

    Thank you very much,

    C.T.

  • Hi C.T.,

There is no specific spec in the datasheet, the main difference is internal to the IC which makes the TPS23758 ideal for sync topologies and the TPS23755 is ideal for diode rectified topologies.  For better efficiency and regulation in a Primary Side Regulated (PSR) application, it is recommended to use a sync topology for 5V applications.

Please let me know if having any additional questions and thank you for considering Texas Instruments PoE products.

  • Hi Brett,

Got it, so, if I use TPS23755 + UCC24612, than it will be ideal for 5V application, am I right?

    Thank you,

    C.T.

  •  Hi C.T.,

You can not use the UCC24612 with the TPS23755 because the TPS23755 is designed for diode rectified flybacks. If you want to improve efficiency for sync rec designs, you can use this controller with the TPS23758 which is designed to be used in a sync rectification topology only. However, the TPS23755 is designed for use in a diode rectified topology only and using this controller with the TPS23755 is not recommended.

  • Hi Brett,

Understand, thanks for your explanation in detail.

    Best regards.
