TPS65217: Disable PowerPath

Part Number: TPS65217
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3358,

Hello,

we use the tps65217 together with the am3358 in a costum linux board. The Board can be powered via battery, but for shipping we have to disable the PowerPath of the battery. According the datasheet the Backgate controll or Q2 (both names are used for Battery Fet) should be opend to disable the power path. In some newer tps parts this mode is called shipping mode. Is it possible to disable the battery fet via i2C or a external GPIO ?

Best regards

Stefan

  • I am familiar with the term "Shipping Mode".

Unfortunately, there is no way to disconnect the battery (BAT) from the SYS pins using I2C or GPIO.

The only way to force this FET to turn off completely would be to remove all external power (from AC and USB), then manually remove and re-insert the battery.

If you do this without pressing the push-button (PB_IN pin), then I expect that the BAT voltage will no longer be present on the SYS pin. However, keep in mind that there is no load on the SYS pin at this time, so the capacitor at the SYS pin may have some voltage on it that will continue to decrease over time as the capacitor discharges through leakage resistances.
