BQ76940EVM: Current sense Resistor selection

Part Number: BQ76940EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940

Can we select the Rsns Value for 50A. Will it be work for 50A.

200mV/100A = 2mOhm

If I will use 2mE 100A Shunt. Will Work.

  • Hi Vikas,
In general yes, but be sure to consider the features you are using in the part and characteristics of the part and component tolerances. The coulomb counter is one feature to keep the input within the dynamic range.
Another consideration is the maximum OCD threshold for the bq76940, 100 mV with a maximum delay of 1.28 seconds. Both have a tolerance, the sense resistor or shunt used will have a tolerance also.
Also consider the SCD threshold, similar considerations as the OCD. If there are specific system needs SCD may be the limiting factor.
