Hi All,

I am developing a power device with the TPS2372. This power device will not have IP functionality. I am a bit confused as I am not sure if I have to include the bob smith termination or not. I have been reading about Bob smith termination and it seems like it provides a way to sink any unbalance in RF transmission, but as I don't have any data this may be redundant for my application. Am I right? or am I completely lost?.

I forgot to say that I'm not using any transformer for this appliation

Hi Daniel,

Bob smith termination is mainly used for data; however, it does still help with other things like ESD for example. So even if you're not planning to use data on your board and you're only using power, it would be good to still keep the bob smith terminations there.

Hi Darwin,

Thanks for the quick answer. I have included the TVS ( 58V stand off) which is recommended by TI's and two additional ones (58V stand off) between spare pairs and data pairs at the very front end.... I would still have some benefit by adding the BOB smith termination in this case?.

Apart from ESD what other benefits it could bring?.
