BQ24160: I want to fina a dual input charge IC, one input for USB, one inpuut for DC IN 12v adapter ,Please give me a recommendation, My requirement is described below:

Part Number: BQ24160
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2121, BQ25606, BQ25601D

1.  support dual input charge

2. VIN input charge voltage>12V

3. charge current >1.5A

4. default battery charge finished volatge is 4.35V(default  vfloat is 4.35v),supported softeware setting chaging

5. support PCB through hole design ,(For example : the ball pitch>0.65mm, or the package is similar to QFN etc)

Many thanks

  • Hi,

BQ24160 maximum operating input voltage on VIN is 10.5V.  I recommend the following 2 chip solution:

    TPS2121 MUX + BQ25606 standalone battery charger.

If you want I2C controlled charger, you can switch to BQ25601D.

    Regards,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff:

Many Thanks for your recommendation。I will carefully consider about your 2 chip solution.  and I still have one question about TPS2121.

What's difference between Switchover time and ss pin Cload delay time?

    Many thanks

    Best regards

  • Hi,

Switchover time is the dead time when both inputs are off.  Longer switchover results in possible output droops if the load is large.  After switchover, the external

capacitor (CSS) will then be used as a timer to wait for the input to finish setting (tSETx). When the settling timer has expired, CSS continues to charge and set the output slew rate (SRON) for a soft start.  Datasheet figure 12 gives a good graphic diagram of CSS delay.

  • Hi Jeff:

Many thanks,One more question about BQ25601D

    1. if No battery is connected to BQ25601D, when a 5V usb insert, what's the default voltage of SYS pin, if  the charging current can boot a mini system?

    2. if a battery is connected to BQ25601D, when no 5v  usb insert, and when battery voltage is 2V,what's the voltage of SYS pin?

    Many thanks

  • Hi,

Regarding 1, with no battery and VBUS applied, V(SYS) =MINSYS~=3.6V.

Regarding 2, with battery but no VBUS, V(SYS)=V(BAT)-I(BAT)*RDSonQ4.

    Regards,

    Jeff
