BQ24170EVM-610-15V: The charging current cannot be adjusted to 3.5A

Part Number: BQ24170EVM-610-15V

Dear

I use BQ24170EVM-610-15V.Enter 12V on the J1 side,The output J2 VBAT and PGND are connected with 3 lithium batteries of 7.2V in parallel, and an ammeter is connected in series.

Then I want to set the charging current to 3.5A, modified R18=100K, R30=100K, and R32=27K
However, when I plugged in after the modification, the ammeter showed A current of only 2.4A and the LED light D1 was always on
Why is that?Is there anything else I need to change?

  • Hi,

Your test setup may be altering the voltages at key pins.  What is the voltage at IC PVCC and SRN pins?  The ammeter is series is highly resistive and may be artificially increasing the sensed battery voltage, forcing the IC into CV mode.  At a minimum, turn off auto ranging on the ammeter.  We usually do not recommend using a series ammeter.  Instead, can you measure the voltage across the sense resistor?

  • Hi,

Any update on this?  Since I haven't heard back, I am closing this thread.  It will lock in few more days.
