BQ24075: Can we provide 12V at the input of bq24075 for charging the Lipo Battery?

Part Number: BQ24075
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25606, BQ25601

In  the datasheet of  bq24075 it is mentioned - 28-V Input Rating with Overvoltage Protection. What is exactly means?

It is possible to charge a lipo battery from  bq24075 by providing 12v power supply at the input of the IC .If yes, what will be the consequences of that?

  • Hello Aman,

The BQ24075 has on OVP voltage of 6.6V. This means that the device can only charge the battery with up to 6.6V input voltage. Above 6.6V, the input FET is turned off. The 28V input voltage rating specifies the maximum voltage the input pin can withstand before damage to the pin. For such a high input voltage, i'll suggest you use a switching charger to minimize power loss. Please take a look at the BQ25601 and BQ25606.
