LM1949: Lifetime information and device alternatives

Hi,

I am designing a fuel injection circuit that requires limiting the injector current. The injector resistance is ~1-Ohm. The LM1949 does exactly what I am looking for, BUT I have the following concerns/questions:

(1) The device was released in 1995. How much longer will this part be in production?

(2) It is only available as through-hole component. Why was there never an update to SMD?

(3) Is there an alternative solution that incorporates more channels? I need to drive six injectors and would prefer a more integrated solution if available.

Hi Falk,

The LM1949 is listed as ACTIVE, which means it is recommended for new designs.

(2) It is only available as through-hole component. Why was there never an update to SMD?

Yes, it is only available a through hole. I do not know why the device was never updated.

(3) Is there an alternative solution that incorporates more channels? I need to drive six injectors and would prefer a more integrated solution if available.

Sorry, there are no alternatives.

I have a follow up question: What wafer fab process is this IC being manufactured? Our products require a 10-year life-cycle - so its important for us to understand the lifetime expectation of this device.
