WEBENCH® Tools/LM3481: Winding Orientation of transformer

Hi everyone,

I designed a flyback converter with LM3481 by webench.

in winding instruction it's suggested that primary first and second wind clockwise, auxiliary and secondary wind counter clockwise.

I want to know. what is the effect of winding orientation ?

Hi Zahra,

Thanks for reaching out with your question.

The winding orientation dictates that standard dot notation of a transformer. If the two windings are wound in the same direction the polarity of the voltage will be the same. If the voltage on one winding is known the then the voltage and polarity of all the other winding are known. This dictates how the other components of the circuit are connected to the circuit.
