BQ4050: Learning FCC in BQ4050.

Part Number: BQ4050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, , GPCCEDV

Hi TI,

I am new to BMS systems, working on bq4050 with EV2400(Fuel gauge).

I went through some of the parameters which are necessary to run BMS, like:

Cell Configuration: 3S(in DA register)

Cell Balancing: Enabled

Design Capacity: 17400 mAh,

Design Capacity:7420cWh,

Design voltage: 12600mv

and parameters like SUV, SOV, SOCC, SOCD, SOT, SOTF and PF thresholds according to my requirements.

I think I don't have any issue with Cell Chemistry(default Li-ion as wish I set).

my questions are:

1. How do I increase my FCC(to design capacity i.e. 17400)?

2. What id Chemistry ID and how can I found this one for my cell?

I had gone through three steps to complete the FCC from TI but is that case for impedance track gauges. Are FCC steps are same in both the cases(i.e in impendence & CEDV methods)?  if not tell me the constructive procedure for CEDV based gauges?

Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Himavanth,

CEDV is completely different from IT. To learn FCC on a CEDV gauge, you will first need to get CEDV parameters from GPCCEDV. Then you will need to run a chg, dsg cycle completely. Only then will you learn correct FCC.

I looked up the db, there is no direct match to your cell. Besides, this is a CEDV gauge. So, please run GPCCEDV to generate the CEDV parameters.

  • Hi Batt,

I think your reply really helps me a lot to get in the right direction, thank you for that.

    1. How can fix parameters like FitMaxSOC%, FitMinSOC% & LearnSOC%?

    2. Do I need to enable any bits before data logging(creating log files) for each of the different cases? if Yes what are they?

    3. Is learning cycle means DISCHARGE +REST + CHARGE(this is the case for the Impedance Tracking algorithm) in each of the six cases, what I should flow while logging the data? if not, provide me with the supporting documents or explain?

    Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Himavanth,

You're welcome. CEDV is essentially a curve fitting algorithm. The learnSOC is supposed to be between fitmax and fitmin. Max can range from 7-12%, min can range from 3 to 7%. However max and min can never be equal and must have a gap of at least 2% to allow for learning. You can read up about CEDV here.

taken from one of our deep dives.

2 and 3. No, please follow all steps per the GPCCEDV document.

Also, can you please remove the unrelated tags from your initial post? This message is getting flagged in multiple areas. Your only tag here should be the bq4050.

  • Hi Batt,

I am not able to find a way to delete tags from the initial post, sorry for that. anyway, I will take care of that from now onwards.

    Note:

When I try to discharge my battery at an average maximum rate, it takes about 7-8 hours of time, so a very large amount of data log file is created.

But as mentioned in the technical document size of the zip file with all the logging files should be < 2MB.

    1. Do I need to take care of deleting some rows of data or GPC Packager will take care of that?

    2.  if I need to take care of that, How can I delete rows so that I can not get the error in parameters?

    Thanks & Regards

  • Hi Himavanth,

Please just leave V, I, T, and time. The procedure is explained in the GPCCEDV notes. The rest of the rows are not required. You only need one dsg with a few seconds of relaxation on either side of the dsg.

  • your reply resolved my issue. Thank you for your reply:)

    Thanks & Regards
