BQ40Z50-R1: SOH

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1

Hi:

We are trying to test the battery state of health (SOH) feature, and utilize it for battery life control. When the SOH is less than a certain level, the host system will have warning.

For example, if we want to use 75% as the threshold: 75% and above the battery works normal; while 74% the host starts warning.

So how can we change the SOH to a certain level? Is there a easy way to set the battery to achieve this? Based on my understanding, SOH is a calculated value, and may be hard to set to a certain value. Please share some ideas.

Thank you!

Chen

  • Hi Chen,

SOH is calculated as (Full Charge Capacity) / Design Capacity. So as the Full Charge Capacity is updated as the battery ages, the SOH will decrease.

Since Design Capacity is a data flash parameter, you can try to increase this to see if you can control the SOH that way. I haven't tried this for this specific device, but it seems like it should work for your test.

    Best regards,

    Matt
