TPS659037: Power loss estimation for LDO portion

Hi Experts,

I would like to estimate the power loss of PMIC for LDO portion. In case of PMIC, can we estimate it by below formula?

 Power_loss[W] = (Vin - Vout)  * Iout

Also , can we estimate the thermal dissipation by below formula?

 Delta T = package thermal resistance * Power_loss

    Hi,

    Power loss equation is correct. If you are calculating only the delta temperature, your above equation is also correct. For Junction temperature estimation, please use the below equation. If you need more accurate values, you need to do the actual measurements on the PCB as junction temperature has considerable influence on PCB.

    Tj = Tambient + package thermal resistance* power_loss
