TPS2553D: Inrush current capability

Hi Team,

My customer evaluated the TPS2553D under the following conditions.
1. Connect a device under TPS2553D is enabled, and measure inrush current
2. Connect a device under TPS2553D is disabled. Then TPS2553D is enabled, and measure inrush current
3. Short output while TPS2553D is enabled, and measure inrush current
And they measured high inrush current under #1 & #2 conditions.
Please check an attached their measurement waveforms.

How much current does the TPS2553D have capability for inrush current?

  • Hi Koshi,

    Please refer to the datasheet with following content:

    The hot short is the worst case with the highest transient current.

    And the datasheet guarantees the hot short condition.

    I don't know the exact value.

    But for power switch, we not focus on that value only. We focus on the irush current and especially the response time, (Look up 'tios' in datasheet).

    As the transiet time is short (~2us), the energy will not being able to damage the part. We put more attenetion on the response time as the process will lead to the input and output voltage drop which influence the normal work of application.
