BQ25895: BQ25895 without I2C

Part Number: BQ25895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25606, BQ24610

Hi,

Can i use BQ25895 without I2C protocol.and control this chip with RC-Settable.I dont have any controller on my custom power board to control this chip via i2c.

  • Hi Pritesh,

Yes.  However, you be will unable to change the charge current which defaults to 2A.  Can you use a standalone part like the 3-A BQ25606?

  • Hi,

Actually we want to drive Raspberry Pi which will took 3A current with Quectel LTE module which can draw upto 1.6A.To drive both parallel we choose BQ25895.Can it drive our both system without i2c?

  • Pritesh,

You can set the input current to the max = 3.25A using D+=D- and appropriate ILIM resistor but you will need to power with at least 90%=4.2V*(3A+1.6A)/(VBUS*3.25A) >= 6.6V input supply.  You will need very good heatsinking for 4.6A output current.  You will not have much current available to charge the battery.  Perhaps you should consider a charge controller with external FETs like BQ24610.
