Parameters for BQ27210

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27210

Does TI have a list of known commercial battery parameters for the BQ27210 gas gauge? Or is it necessary to obtain the parameters through discharge data/manufacturer information.

I would like to test the BQ27210 in a best case scenario using the evaluation kit and would prefer to use already known parameters if they exist.

Thank you.

  • Alex,

The short answer, unfortunately, is no.  Let me explain why.  Due to the virtually infinite combination of system requirements (end-of-discharge voltages, expected load/temp variations, etc.), battery configurations (capacities), and manufacturer cell "recipes" (which affect the impedance profile), this wouldn't be feasible.  Furthermore, there are often tradeoffs when determining the compensation coefficients and one customer might want to skew it one way and another customer in a different way to match their respective system requirements.  For example, you might want a very good fit in a narrow range of loads and temps, while another customer might need it configured to give acceptable matching across a very wide range.

If you have the discharge data across your expected loads and temperatures, it typically might take an hour or two to determine the best compensation coefficients.  You can plug in the data for your cells and system into the yellow cells of the attached spreadsheet and then try different coefficients to get a nice match in your desired range on the graphs.
