BQ24640: a power backup to a magnetic latch

Part Number: BQ24640

Team,

My customer is considering BQ24640:

As a potential solution for a circuit I am putting together to act as a power backup to a magnetic latch (12V 7W load). When I lose main power, I need the supercapacitor to energize the lock briefly so that it will open. My thought is I could use this to charge the capacitor, and then I can design a power switch between main power and the supercapacitor.

Do you see this as being a good option, or does TI provide anything else?

Thanks!

Viktorija
