TPS63802: Is it possible to use 1uH inductor?

Part Number: TPS63802

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TPS63802 and has a question.

I was grateful if you could advise.

---

According to the datasheet(SLVSEU9A), the Silicon will be used with intended to 470nH.

In this case, is it possible to use 1uH.

In my company, it has already used 1uH the other circuit, it is required using 1uH.

Could you tell me the pros and cons when using 1uH.

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

  • Hi Shinichi,

As long as you are not pushing the device to its limits, it is possible to use 1 μH. However keep in mind that the device will be optimized for 0.47 μH. Using 1 μH will give you smaller ripple, whereas using 0.47 μH will  give you faster transient response.

    Best regards,
    Milos

  • Hi Milos,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand 1uH should be OK, but device is optimized for 0.47uH.

Also it must be kept in mind ripple and transient response with inductance.

I'll share your suggestion with the customer.

    I appreciate your great help.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
