TPS2549: Apple charging & Thunderbolt for TPS2549

Part Number: TPS2549
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , TPS65988

Hi Sir,

I want to use TPS2549 to do Apple charging (2.4A) & Thunderbolt docking. Does you or other customer has any experience to verify MFI compliance?

We just want to know TPS2549 is safe or not at this design. thanks~

Regards,

Driscoll

  • Hello Driscoll,

    What are you using as your PD controller within your Thunderbolt system and what TBT controller are you using? I ask because some of our PD controllers implement non-compliant legacy charging schemes such as Divider x

  • Hi Sir,

    PD controller is Cypress - CCG5;

    TBT controller is Intel - Titan Ridge

    Regards,

    Driscoll

  • Hello Driscoll,

    Apologize for the late reply, but I finally have an answer for you. For the TPS254x family of devices, we do not run MFi testing on the devices themselves. What I can confirm is that our customers have passed CarPlay certification using the TPS2549-Q1 on their Head unit. Tests that the TPS2549-Q1 are involved with are MFi VBUS spec, and eye diagram test. Since these tests are system level tests, we normally say that these devices are compatible instead of compliant.

    As far as the type of PD controller you are using, there is the TPS65988 which is a dual port controller which incorporates BC1.2/proprietary charger detection and negotiation.
