TPS2373: Number of class cycles

Part Number: TPS2373
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2372

Hi team

My client is reviewing Type 4 Class 8 with the TPS2373.

Load is 5V / 12A.

The data sheet shows 5 pulses from PD Class 7 or 8.

However, circuit of customer is outputting 6 pulses.

Is there any problem with 6 class cycles?

  • Hi Charles,

Which PSE is this? Six class fingers is indicative of nonstandard PoH (which outputs 3 class fingers per 2 pairs so with 4 pairs there is 6 class fingers); however, there is a first long class finger and also if the PD is requesting Class 8 (two different class currents), and PSE can process that, it is a confusing PSE behavior.

However, nonetheless, The TPS2373 or TPS2372 BT PD that receives 6 class fingers will see this as a Type 4 PSE and the output TPH-TPL-BT logic will be LOW-LOW-LOW.
