I have used the BQ27542 fuel gauge in HDQ mode on a battery pack with circa 1000mAh capacity. I would like to use the same fuel gauge for a larger capacity battery pack. The battery capacity is now 26000 mAh which is far higher than the BQ27542 device supports.
My question is, can the fuel gauge be adapted to support higher capacity packs? For example, modify the programmed sense resistor value in the BQ27542 to half the fitted value and therefore all current measurements made by the BQ27542 will be halved resulting in the half of the actual charge. In the application firmware, double the measured value to restore the actual measured capacity.
I am happy if this approach reduces the accuracy of the measurements.
Is there any issues with this approach?
