TPS63060: Load destoyed disconnecting the battery power supply

Hello,

Our device is powered by a 3.6 volts, 70000 mAh LION Battery and protected by a 1.5 Amp fuse. in line with the input of a TPS63060 buck-boost converter supplying 3.3 Volts to the load circuit (µC, analog circuit, etc...)

Sometimes, disconnecting the battery destroy the load, including the fuse. It is probably due to an excessive peak voltage and current at the output of the TPS63060.

What shall you recommend to solve this problem?

Hello Guy,

To analyze this phenomenon it would be great if you can provide the following:

- Schematic (TPS63060 block)

- input/output waveform, when battery gets disconnected.

- when the failure occurs, is the TPS63060 also destroyed?

- is there a specific part of the load (uC, analog circuit, etc,) destroyed?

- is the load active, when the battery gets disconnected?

- what is the typical load current?

- what type of fuse is used?

For 1s Li-ion batteries we do have alternative parts available. The 2A low Iq TPS63802 is the newest addition.
