BQ35100: Query on measuring 200uA using accumulator mode

Hi,

I want to use BQ35100 for Li-SOCl2 Primary battery of 19Ah for its remaining capacity measurement during operation. Continuous load on the battery is 200uA and hourly once load current goes to 30mA(average) for a duration of 500ms. As currently my product do not know state of battery charge capacity so I want to introduce BQ35100 to know the % of battery capacity remaining. Do you recommend me to use BQ35100 to use for the above requirement?

Secondly if I can use BQ35100 for the above application then from my understanding on the IC I have selected to use Accumulator mode for measurement of charge remaining capacity of the battery.

I have question that if through I2C micro sends command to start the operation for battery health monitor and stop command after 5days to know the battery state of health then can I know the state at the end of 5day.

I believe this gauge can be used for such low currents. Please allow me one day to confirm this with my colleagues. Yes, you will know the state of health at the end of 5 days after the command.

Hi Rahul,

The current level is too small for the gauge to handle in accumulator mode. You could possibly scale the current, but at 200uA, the gauge current draw will be competing with the current draw of the load given that the gauge will have to stay on continuously. Your high current pulse duration is too short for the gauge 's EOS mode to be effective. Perharps you could incorporate a periodic learning where the load is kept on longer so as to be able to take sufficient measurements for EOS before going back into shutdown state.
