TPS1663: Connect in parallel for 10A limit

Part Number: TPS1663
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25982, LM5069

Can the TPS1663 be connected in parallel, each with 5A limit, to achieve a 10A current limit?

  • Hello Matthew,

Yes, these could be connected in parallel. but the current might not be equal through each device in parallel.

Can you provide below requirements for your design? We can suggest other parts.

    • Maximum and Minimum Input voltage
    • Maximum output current
    • Protection features required (Under voltage, overvoltage, reverse polarity protection, reverse current blocking, overload/overcurrent, Inrush current limiting)

  • This is for distribution and current limiting of 24V (+/- 10%).

Primary concern is limiting output current to maximum 13A for short circuit protection / wiring current limits. Minimum limit of ~9A should be sufficient, 10A nominal was a good target to achieve this. UVLO required, OVLO and inrush limiting desired but not required.

I did find the TPS25982 which looked like a better fit, however we have 48V in the system and might want the ability to survive 48V at the input.

I was also considering the LM5069, but not needing the external FET and current sense resistor was an advantage.

    Appreciate the help,

    Matt
