BQ25713: One cell boost mode

Part Number: BQ25713
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi,

I am using BQ25713EVM-017 board and is successful setup two cell boost to 5.0V or 9.0V but not with one cell.

My setup:

- Remove JP 2,3,4 for one cell setup

- Set register 0x04 = 4200mV

- Set register 0x06 = 5000mV

- Set register 0x08 = 3200mA

- Jumper EN_OTG to 3.3V

- Set register 0x34 (Charge Option 3) bit EN_OTG = 1

NO BOOST OUTPUT

  • Hey Chuong,

I just tried your same testing parameters on the BQ25713EVM and I was able to see an output voltage on VIN (TP4) to ground.

Can you tell me more about your testing parameters and setup? Do you have a complete register readout from BQStudio as you are trying to set this operation?

    Regards,

    Joel H

  • Hi Joe,

I was able to boost from single cell to either 5V or 9V now but I have to reset the IC when I want to change the boost voltage. What is sequence of reg. setup to change boost voltage from 5V to 9V or from 9V back down to 5V? Please advice.

    Thank you,

    Chuong Nguyen

  • Hey Chuong,

On our EVM, I did the following test. With 5V battery input,

    • I disabled the Watchdog Timer in the ChargeOption0 register.
    • Then I set the OTG Voltage to 5V.
    • I also set the OTG Current to 500mA
    • Then I enabled OTG in the ChargeOption3 register.
    • Once OTG was active and showing 5V, I changed the OTG Voltage to 9V, which changed the output voltage to 9V seamlessly.
    • I then changed the OTG voltage back down to 5V, which also showed the voltage drop back to 5V, seamlessly.

    Regards,

    Joel H
