BQ34Z100-G1: Partial BQ34Z100-G1 can't get the right Full Charge Capacity

Dear colleague,

Our customer found partial BQ34Z100-G1 can't get the right Full Charge Capacity as below, real Full Charge Capacity is 3200 mAH.

And what documents do you need to determine the problem? I find I can't update it to e2e, so I will send related documents to your email.

Could you please give some suggestions?

    You first need to characterize your cell, program chemistry, and complete a learning cycle. For that, please use GPCCHEM first and then perform the learning cycle where you relax-chg-relax-dsg-relax the battery twice. Once that is done, the gauge will have learned the battery and your FCC will update.

    The customer has completed the learning cycle.  Because this issue just happened in partial BQ34Z100-G1, not everyone.

    So what kind of documents do we ask the customer to provide?

  • Please upload the documents here as a zip file. From what I see here, if their config is such that there is a large variance in load and your load selection for remcap sims is not accurate, you will see that after a high rate of dsg, the capacity can decrease significantly. Also, the bq34z100 IT algorithm is old, there have been many more improvements in remcap and fcc simulations in the newer products. So there may not be much that we can do except provide a cause.

    What is the remcap sims? and how to select an accurate load selection?

  • Remcap sims refers to the remaining capacity simulations that the IT algorithm does with the V, I, T and load select that is used for determining the IR drop on the battery. When that is done, remaining capacity and fcc are updated. An accurate load select would be something that simulates the capacity based on the avg load seen by the battery at the time of the remcap sim.

    The csv file in the zip file that you uploaded cannot be opened. Neither can I install your srec because it is not recognized by bqstudio.

    I looked at the log. It looks like your gauging has not been enabled. Please send the IT enable command to perform gauging. I can see this because control status is 0x0010 or 0x0000. This means neither VOK or QEN has been set. That means IT is not set in update status.
