TPS2553D: what is the Fault function ??

Part Number: TPS2553D

The Fault function asserted during overcurrent, overtemperature, or reverse-voltage conditions.

I'm confuse the overcurrent condition,

1: If I set the current limit is 75mA and my load is 200mA, does the Fault function enable??

2: what is the overcurrent condition for the fault function?

3: for the auto-retry function, please share the R/C time equation between Fault and En pin.

  • Hi Gordon,

    1. Yes, Fault asserts.
    2. As reach current limit threshold, Fault will assert with 8ms deglitch.

E is Vin. caculate t as Vc(t) arrives Enable threshold 1.1V.

    Thanks.

  • If I use the auto-retry function circuit and set the current limit is 75mA and my load is a super-cap.

And then the Fault function always disable the chip and cuper-cap always don't charge.

So, I can't use the circuit for charging function???

    Does it make sense??

  • R13=226K don't pop.

  • the over current condition  of The Fault function is not only for short circuit??

  • Hi Gordon,

    1. For current limit of 75mA, please refer to the following table on page 20 of datasheet:

    2.  The fault will assert as current limit not only for short circuit.

    3. With auto re-retry function, still can charge the super-cap. We call the current average current although has a period off time.

I know your concern. For details, you can refer to the following information on page 22 of datasheet.
