BQ24725A: How to design the total power when the chargers are connected in parallel?

Part Number: BQ24725A

Hello TI

I want to use two or more chargers in parallel application, but i expect to use one total power sharing.

Can I connect the current sense resistor in series to achieve this function?   Is there anything that needs attention?

Please refer block diagram as below, series RAC1 and RAC2 share the same total power.

If the above is feasible, how should the ACDRV & CMSRC pin be connected?

Can I let it float or connect together?

Thanks a lot

Matt

  • Hi Matt,

What is your desired charge current for each battery, and how much current will the system load draw? Also, what is your adapter's voltage and current rating?

It's possible to use a single charger to charge two battery packs in parallel as long as the current is not too high and your adapter can provide enough power.

    Best regards,

    Angelo

  • Hello Angelo

Charge current : 5A(60W) per pack

    System load : 100W

    Adapter : 180W / 19V

In our application, it can not charge two battery pack with one charger.  I need a feature that has a charging priority.

Can i use 2 series RAC for 2 different chargers to achieve 1 total power?

  • Hi Matt,

I see a few potential issues with your implementation, but I'd like to understand your application better first. Here are a few questions:

    1) Can you explain what you mean by "charging priority"?

    2) Can you show how you plan to connect the batteries to the system? Both batteries will power the same system load, correct? How will the BATFETs be connected?

    Best regards,

    Angelo
