TPS3430-Q1: SET0, SET1 connection

Hi expert,

I have a quick question about SET0/SET1 connection of TPS3430-Q1. In figure 15 and figure 20, SET0/SET1 pins connected directly to the power rail or ground. But there is no specific description on them. These pins are ok to directly connect to the power or ground without any terminations. Is my understanding correct? Thank you for your quick update since customer finalizing their schematic.

Kawasaki-san,

These pins simply need to be connected to power or GND to enable logic levels high or low based on what you need. You don't need passives on them.

Let me ask one more question about this matter.

If we put the resistor (e.g. 1k or 10k) between this pin and power or ground to protect the un-expected current or voltage, can SET0 and SET1 work normally?

Or do these pins has internal resistors or some protection circuit? Can you show the equivalent circuit of these pins?

Yoda-san,

There shouldn't be an issue with connecting a resistor (which I'm assuming you're using as a pullup or pulldown), but there shouldn't be any problems without it as long as you are connecting to GND for logic 0 and a strong Vcc for logic high.

But I want to know why there should not be issues from technical point of view.

1) If we connect this pin to Power/GND directly, how this pin is protected from noise, current, voltage? (Internal resistor or diode or some protection?)

2) If we use an resistor, what value can we use? How should we calculate the value?

Yoda-san,

I would have to consult the design team regarding internal protection but I am replying to you based off of what we have seen customers do over time. For pullup or pulldown resistors, I'd use 1k-10k.
