EMB1428Q: The EMB1428 cannot be used to drive the switch normally

Hi Team,

Currently using EMB1428 alone does not match EMB1499.

The circuit diagram is connected as shown in the picture.


Reverse en to the done dir, reverse to DIR _RT three fault angle ground. EMB1428 does not return data when the customer transmits SPI signal 0X01. Set the RST connection to 0, and set the transfer command to 1. This will return the data. What is the role of RST, because it seems that there is no explicit statement in the datasheet.

When the data receives fault[3:0] as 1010 is correct, the switch still cannot be opened. Will it be a problem with Charge Pump? How to resolve this issue?

    I don't understand very well what is the issue the customer is having. Can you please give a high level overview of what's happening? I also have several questions from your post:

    • What do you mean by this statement: "Currently using EMB1428 alone does not match EMB1499"?
    • Are they using their own board or the EMB1402 EVM?
    • You mentioned that the EMB1428 does not return data, but then right after you mention "this will return the data". Can you please clarify?

    I am sorry to confuse to you.

    • What do you mean by this statement: "Currently using EMB1428 alone does not match EMB1499"? --> Customer uses EMB1428, and he doesn't use EMB1499 together.
    • Are they using their own board or the EMB1402 EVM? --> The board is developed by the customer. The customer pulls the wafer foot out and then solders the charge pump.
    • You mentioned that the EMB1428 does not return data, but then right after you mention "this will return the data". Can you please clarify? -->
      • In this case, EMB1428 does not return data: when SPI signal 0X01 is transmitted.
      • If the customer makes some adjustments, EMB1428 can return data: Connect RST and set it to 0. After transmitting the command, set RST to 1.

    At present, the problem is that there are no waveforms in CEXT1 and CEXT2. Customer would like to know how to resolve it? Thank you

    Hi Annie,

    I apologize for the delay in my response. Since the customer is using their our hardware, the problem could be at the board level. External components are needed on CEXT1 and CEXT2 in order for the charge pump to work. See EMB1428Q datasheet (http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/emb1428q.pdf) "Charge Pump" section on page 15 for more details on components needed.

    Regarding the RESET pin behavior, I reviewed the 1402 EVM and the reset pin is normally pulled up (through external circuitry) and in software the RESET pin is set to LOW when a START command is sent to EMB1428Q and set to HIGH after a STOP command.
