TPS22918: IOUT definition in datasheet

Part Number: TPS22918

Dear TI staff

I curious to know why the IOUT in datasheet of TPS22918 define it to be negative? (see 6.5 Electrical Characteristics Ron session or  6.7 Typical DC Characteristics figure 3 and 4)

Or this IOUT is not current from VOUT pin to RL?

Thank you for advance

Narukom S.

  • Hi Narukom,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

Yes, you are correct. IOUT is referring to the current being drawn from the load, so the current from the VOUT pin to RL. The reason why we refer to this current as a negative value is because we refer to the current in respect to the device. Therefore, any current leaving the device will be negative, while any current entering is positive (quiescent current, shutdown current, etc.)

    Thanks,
