TPS65632: About replacement part

Part Number: TPS65632
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65651,

Hi team

My customer searches power IC of OLED panel.

The OLED specifications and reference schematic are as follows.

The TPS65651 has been confirmed as a discontinued product.

So we reviewed it to apply the TPS65632.

However, I confirmed that the current of OUTP2 (AVdd) is 30mA.

This is much lower than Iope3 in OLEDs.

I think this will cause problems in operation.

What is your opinion?

If you have a problem, please let me know a better solution.

  • Hi,

I have notified our expert regarding this topic. Please expect a response by 7/12/19.

    Thanks,

    Costin

  • Hello Charles,

I believe the 30mA current from OUTP2 is meant to cover the worst case boost conversion ratio (Vout/VIN). Worst case in this case will be Vin=2.9V and Vout=7.7V. The only limitation I see in the datasheet is the switch current limit which is 250mA minimum. So I think 50mA type current should be achievable depending on Vout/VIN ratio and converter efficiency but 80mA could be a problem because at this high a current switch current limit of 250mA may be exceeded. You can measure the boost switch current under you application conditions by putting a current probe between SWP2 and L2 (referencing schematics on page 1 of the datasheet) and as long as this peak current is lower than 250mA, it should be OK.

    Kind Regards,

    Liaqat

  • Hi Liaqat

If the peak current measured with a current probe is below 250mA, is there no problem?

Doesn't it matter if the continuous current is 80mA?

    Thank you.

  • Charles,

The only limitation I see in the datasheet is the boost switch peak current limit. I do not see any overload protection specification that limits the load current otherwise. So as long as switch current limit is not exceeded (over temperature and over Vin, Vout), it should be ok. Please note that switch peak current is the current flowing through L2 (referencing the schematics on page 1 of the datasheet).

    Kind Regards,

    Liaqat
