TPS65023-Q1: Add PG Functionality Externally

Part Number: TPS65023-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS650250

Hi Team,

I'm looking for ideas on how to add PG functionality externally to the TPS65023-Q1 so that it can be sequenced without a host MCU. I understand the status of the rails can be monitored through the device's serial interface, but my customer is looking to use this device in a standalone fashion.

Have you seen anyone do this with external circuitry before?

Thanks,
Mitchell

  • Mitchell,

Yes, there is some documentation that will allow you to implement the TPS65023-Q1 without a host MCU.

The TPS650250 is a similar part that does not have any I2C communication or an internal Register Map to indicate PG and generate interrupts.

Please refer to the Powering the AM335x With the TPS650250 User's Guide, which uses an analog sequencing circuit for controlling power-up, power-down, and generating a PG signal for the AM335x processor (with the PWRFAIL_SNS and PWRFAILz comparator input/buffered output I/O pair).

The TPS65023-Q1 has an additional comparator input/buffered output I/O pair (LOWBAT_SNS/LOWBATz).
