HI,

Currently, the BQ24133RGYT is used as a battery charger IC. The battery type is Li-ion , 2P2S configuration. Now, there is a requirement to display the battery charging / discharge status and battery health check. Looking for a suitable device for same.

You can try the bq28z610 or the bq40z50-r2 or r3.

Hi Batt,

Our Li-io Battery config is 2p2s. It is a packed battery , only +ve , -ve and Temp signals of Vbat are available / accessible. As per my understanding of BQ28z610, the individual cells terminals also required to complete the design. My question is, Can VC1, VC2 , chg and dsg signals can be left floating / unconnected or is it mandatory? even with those left out connections, can the battery status of charge and discharge be be read successfully ?

Hi Udaya,

No, you will need those connections. The gauge is designed to work with individual cells in the pack and so it needs the mid taps.

Thanks. I thought the same. Can you suggest any part number which suits our application or chips which works as a system side BMS?

You can try the bq34z100-g1. However, that device uses an old version of the IT algorithm, so you may not get an as robust solution if you were to use the bq28z610. However, that doesn't require a center tap.
