BQ40Z60: Recommended MOSFETs for 4S Battery 1A charging BQ40z60

Part Number: BQ40Z60

Dear Sirs,

We are using a BQ40z60 to charge a 4S ly-pol battery. We plan to use a 24V power supply as Vin and a maximum charging current of 1A to charge our 2.4Ah li-pol battery in 2-3h.

As stated in the bq40z60 datasheet "40 V or higher-rating MOSFET are preferred for 20-V to 28-V input ". We tryed some mosfets as BUK98150 or DMT5015, but they get too much hot with only a charge current of 0.25A. Could you recommend us any MOSFET to get 1A charging current while avoiding high temperatures in the mosfets?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,

           Carlos

  • While we don't have any direct recommendation for a higher voltage solution, the best way to do it is to select it using the FOM method for either a topside or a bottom side solution. That would be the product of lower Rdson and Qg, the gate cap. Another solution is to use a TO package which will give you the ability to attach a heatsink.
