BQ25890: OTG / VBUS Feedback

Part Number: BQ25890

Hopefully a simple and easy to answer question but I want to be 100% clear:

If 5V is introduced onto the VSYS rail (from the charger) when the OTG is activated and producing 5V internal from the battery, what does the chip do?

-Prefer the incoming 5V?

-Block the incoming 5V?

-Shut-down the OTG?

Should I design some kind of filter for this to block the potential of incoming 5V or does the chip handle this with adequate safety?

  • Hi Disco,

If you mean what happens if 5V is introduced on VBUS when OTG is active, then the answer is the chip has no way to tell that 5V has been applied. It is regulating VBUS to 5V from the battery and will simply scale back the PWM since the external 5V is applied.
