TPS65910: CTL-I2C connection

Part Number: TPS65910
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3354, , TPS65218D0, TPS65216, TPS650250

Hi Team,

We plan to use AM3354 with TPS65910A3A1 in a project.

Could you tell me what to do with unused CTL-I2C pins?

I understood that CTL-I2C don't have to use in my application, Is there worth to connect the pins to MCU under following condition?

Mode : Never enter to Sleep mode
Internal Osc and RTC : Never used
Dynamic voltage control : Never used

Regards,

Takashi Onawa

  • Onawa-san,

If you do not want to use all of these features, then you do not need I2C control of the device. However, the AM3354 Linux kernel will include drivers for the TPS65910, so you would have the option to use I2C if the SDA and SCL signals are wired. If you do not wire I2C, you lose all monitoring of the PMIC (interrupt generated, read status data).

If you do not want to use any of the special features of the TPS65910, maybe you would prefer to use a simpler PMIC:

    • TPS65218D0: 4 DC-DCs, 1 LDO with supervisors.
    • TPS65216: cost-down version of TPS65218D0 without backup battery features.
    • TPS650250: hardware configurable PMIC with no I2C or digital logic (external sequencing circuit)
