TPS2376: can not power on after 2KV differential mode surge test

Part Number: TPS2376

Hi, team,

My customer use PD TPS2376 and found that after 2KV differential mode surge test, device can not power up.

The pin 4 and pin 5 are not shorted, but the voltage of POE +/- is only 1.8V.

So what's the reason that cause this phenomenon?

Thanks and best regards,

Kelly

  • Hi Kelly,

Are there other components that are damaged other than IC? Maybe the TVS? If replacing the IC the 1.8V goes away and the board is operating correctly then something internal to the IC is damaged but I wouldn't what exactly got damaged. The important spec not to exceed during this test is the 100V abs max spec of VDD.

Below is an app note that discusses how protect the PD under these surge conditions.

    Thanks!
