TPS566235: Output Capacitance

Part Number: TPS566235

Dear *,

is it possible to have more capacitance on the output of TPS566235  than is described in Table 3 page 16 of DS ( 110uF) ?

How is the mAX capacitance Cout calculated?

Best Regards,

David.

  • Hi, David

110uF is TI recommended MAX Cout.

You can use the bigger Cout, but please note:

During soft start, the Vout is a linear ramp up which requires a constant charging current I = Cout * Vout / Tss, this current is called inrush current, usually, it should be smaller than 1A, so we can calculate the max Cout is 1A*1mSec/Vout.

However, TPS566235 has very good load transient performance, it doesn't need very large Cout, i think Cout=110uF is enough for majority application.

Besides, 110uF has been validated by TI.
