TPS2062A: When the output of this IC is shorted, how many days will it be broken?

Part Number: TPS2062A

 Hello guys,

One of my customers is going to use TPS2062A for their new products as USB bus switch.

They have a question as the follow.

Q. When the output of this IC is shorted, how many days from the short timing will it be broken?

Could you please give me your reply?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya.

  • Hi,

The TPS2062A has the short circuit protection function.

As you short OUT pin to GND will active this function to prevent damage..

Therefore, short circuit will not damage the power switch.

For TI's policy, I will first click resolved button.

  •  Hi Ziv,

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.

I understood that TPS2062A is not broken even if the output is shorted to GND.

Could I ask you an additional question?

    Q. If Tj of the IC output shorted is less than +125 degree C, the IC is not out of guarantee? Are the IC characteristics not changed in the datasheet conditions?

Thank you again and best regards,

     Kazuya.

  • Hi Kazuya,

It's guaranteed of ambient temperature range -40 degree to 85 degree as datasheet indicates.

If meets the conditions  above, no matter how you short the part, the specs on datasheet is garanteed.

But I wonder, if shorted long time, it will be sure to activate the short circuit protection.
