TPS23861: PSE detection problem

Part Number: TPS23861

Hello,

We use a TI PSE chip to make a surge protection with a Schottky diode between power supply and GND, as shown below.
It has now been found that the leakage current of this diode affects the detection of PD by the PSE.Only some boards have problems, not all.Demand assistance:
1. How much current does this diode leak affect the normal detection and identification of PD?
2. We have mass produced boards. Is there any way to screen out the diode with large leakage current?

  • Hi Vickers,

TPS23861 uses 160 uA and 270 uA current during detection stage and the resistance is calculated below. On the PD side, a valid PD detection resistance is 19K ~26.5K. You could calculate the max allowed leakage current on the port to maintain the detection results in the valid range. Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Penny
