BQ77PL900: Thermistor

Part Number: BQ77PL900
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77915, BQ76930, BQ77905

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what's the best way to monitor the temperature for a 6S3P battery pack? I'm using the bq77PL900 to monitor and balance the cells but there is only one input for a thermistor. I guess I'll need more than one if I'm using 6 cells in series and 3 in parallel.

Thanks in advance.

Antoine

  • Hi SylvainAntoine,

When a single temperature sensor is used for a battery it is typically placed in the hot spot of the battery determined by testing in development.  This is commonly near the center of the assembly but depends on the product and the cooling design.  When multiple sensors are used a MCU will typically be used to collect data from the array.  Any suitable type of sensor can be used. You might look at http://www.ti.com/temperature

For a 6S battery the BQ76930 might be used as a monitor, it supports 2 thermistor temp sensors.  For a standalone BMS solution a pair of the BQ77905 or BQ77915 might be used, this would provide 2 sensors also.
