BQ25600: input current limit default setting

Part Number: BQ25600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , BQ25601D

Hello,

Our customer request if bq25600 can set 100mA input current limit as default, which means 100mA input current setting as soon as VBUS power supply attached.

Could you please let us know if it is available. If it can, please let us know the way.

best regards,

  • Hi Toshiro,

Unfortunately, you cannot set the default input current limit to 100 mA at POR. The host will need to set the input current limit to 100 mA through I2C.

Can you please describe your application? What is the use case in which the input current must be limited to 100 mA in the short time before the host writes 100 mA to the IINDPM bits?

    Best regards,

    Angelo

  • Angelo,

Thank you for your suggestion. I understood that bq25600 cannot set default 100mA input current limit.

The reason he needs this function is to prevent VBUS voltage violation if 100mA SDP USB power is applied.

    best regards,

  • Hi Toshiro,

This should not be an issue. However, the BQ25600D seems like a better fit for your application. The BQ25600D has D+/D- detection, so it can automatically detect a USB SDP and set the input current limit accordingly at plug-in. Please see Section 8.3.3.3.1 in the datasheet for more details on this.

    Best regards,

    Angelo

  • Hi Angeto,

Thank you for your suggestion. I have checked 8.3.3.3.1 and found out 500mA IINLIM in SDP. Does it limit 100mA SDP case.

    best regards,

  • Hi Toshiro,

No, the BQ25600D will set a 500 mA input current limit if it detects a USB SDP. However, I still don’t see why this would cause a VBUS violation since the BQ25600D has a default VINDPM value of 4.5 V.

I would recommend ordering a BQ25600D EVM (or a BQ25601D EVM, if you prefer a QFN package) and evaluating this in your overall system to see if the USB SDP detection works correctly.

    Best regards,

    Angelo
