I have the BQ34110 and EV3400 and I'm trying to measure a 12V 7.6 AH lead acid battery with Battery management studio. I can't record any values for voltage or current. I've made an external voltage divider so the input voltage to BAT is .88V and I'm powering the REGIN with 3.3V as specified. I've gone through the user guide for the BQ34110 and set up the data memory contents as advised. I cant complete voltage or current calibration because correction is out of allowed range. I need to complete the GPC Cycle still but I cant get the GQ34110 to take any values even tho its responding with BM studio. Am I missing somthing?? Thank you for the help.

The 7600mAh is within native range. Please make sure jumpers J2 and J5 are set correctly if you are using the evm. Please report back with more data on your actual and measued values if you need further help.

For this voltage, place jumpers on J2 in the > 5 V positions,
take a look at J3 and see if there is the jumper on J3 or not? (there should be a jumper on J3)
VEN must be set high from the device to enable external divider (Do this in Data Memory on the Settings screen)
Be careful to set the number of series cells parameter to the appropriate value on the Data Memory Configuration screen.
Click CAL_TOGGLE button to set CAL_EN flag in order to be able to set the Ven_en flag

Hi Hossein thanks for the help,

I've completed these steps multiple time with no luck. When I click CAL_TOGGLE Is the bit supposed to change to High(Red). Because when I click it nothing happens.

I have the jumpers on J2 at >5V and the J5 jumper at 16V. The battery voltage reads 13.8V, yet it reads 0V

Your gg looks OK but I'm unable to import your srec. I think the divider ratio in the srec is probably bad. One suggestion is that you connect a 1/3 divider across your PbA cell and get the voltage down to 4V. Use 10k or 1M resistors for this. Then connect the evm and flash it with default fw again. See if you get a voltage reading. If you do, what we guessed is the issue. You can set dividers and settings as Hossein suggested in his reply and it should work once that is done.

No luck.. Changing the input voltage doesn't work. I can't get the VEN pin to go high which is causing a constant 0V on the bat pin. If I cant get VEN to go high nothing is going to happen. I've set VEN_EN high in the Data Memory tab and applied the reset command and I still get nothing.

Are you using the evm or is your design incorporating the IC alone?

Hi Ronald,

We haven't heard from you in a while - hopefully this means that the issue is resolved.

With respect to bqStudio and the bq34110, please download both versions found at: http://www.ti.com/tool/bqstudio

Make sure to install these in separate folders. Use the v.1.3.86 version for calibration. Current calibration is broken in the 1.3.92 version for the bq34110. The issue has been identified and patched and should be fixed in the next release version of bqStudio.

For now as a workaround, please use version 1.3.86 for current calibration. v 1.3.92 may be used to everything else.

Please confirm that your flash update ok volt is set to 0 for testing as well as VEN enabled for your external divider. If issues persist, please try with the series value =1 and confirm you can write to the device. (Write to the device, then read back to make sure its taken).
