BQ76940: Multi-Cell 36-48V Battery Management System Reference Design TIDA-00792

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, TIDA-00792, , BQ78350-R1

Hi,

I made my own BMS using "Multi-Cell 36-48V Battery Management System Reference Design TIDA-00792" reference design and my design is nearly the same as the reference pcb. My battery management system (BMS) is not connecting the bqStudio software. When i measure the Regout (VCC) output of the BQ76940, i see that it has NOT VCC output required for supplying BQ78350-R1 and its voltage is zero. However, 15 series cells are connected to BQ76940.

Do you have any suggestion for solving this problem?

  • hi Yusuf,
Thank you for your interest in BQ76940.
One of our engineers will reply when we are back to the office.

  • Hi Yusuf,

After cell connection or to exit ship mode the BQ76940 must be booted to start operation. Boot is accomplished with a rising edge on the TS1 pin, see the BQ76940 data sheet.  The data sheet shows the concept of a push button switch to boot the part. The TIDA-00792 had a circuit to provide such an edge when the PACK voltage was rising, and options to provide wake from a signal.  See the Q22/Q23 circuit or the WAKE signal.   See example of the wake from PACK signals in http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/tiducn1 section 3.2.2.1.
