TPS53353: TPS53353 DQP Package: Is Pin 5 Not Connected or Do Not Connect?!

Part Number: TPS53353
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53355

Hi All,

In the TPS53353 datasheet, it syis that pin 5 on the DQP package is "No Connect". The term "No Connect" does not tell me that I must leave the pin floating ("Do Not Connect") or that I could tie it to GND or any other signal ("Not Connected"). It all depends on whether this pin is actually bonded to the die internally to the package.

Q1) Is pin 5 of the TPS53353DQP bonded to the die internally ("Do Not Connect") or is it truly not connected ("Not Connected")?

Q2) Is it the same for the TPS53355DQP?

Q3) Would it be possible for TI to standardize this description to either "Do Not Connect" or "Not Connected"? The term "No Connect" is too ambiguous for this purpose.

Cheers,

Casper van Doorne

  • Hi Casper,

Pin 5 on both the TPS53353 and TPS53355 is not Connected to anything internally. The typical design recommendation from TI is to leave this pin as a "No Connect" which means leaving it floating. If desired you can also connect it to GND. I would not recommend you tie it to any other signal other than GND.
