BQ34110EVM-796: BQ34110EVM-796: Error in Calibrating Current in bqStudio

Part Number: BQ34110EVM-796
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hi,

I'm currently having a problem in doing current calibration in bqstudio. An error "first two bytes of the MAC response read from the device does not match MAC command sent."  when attempting to calibrate. I already followed recommended solutions in this related inquiry (https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/806677?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=BQ34110EVM-796 but the error still persists. Add to that, I'm already using the latest version of bqstudio. Thanks.

  • Please reflash the gauge fw and try again or use the non-test version of bqstudio. You can have both bqstudio versions installed in separate folders and run them at the same time.

  • Okay I will try that. I have few more questions.

I will be using  4S2P battery config of 12V lead acid batt  in my application but I used a single battery in obtaining log files for CEDV coefficients, the "number of series cells" in the GPC packager and in the configuration tab in data memory is the actual number of cells in a single battery (a single batt has 6 cells in it)? Also, is there a recommended cell termination voltage in GPC cycles for the battery profile?

Also, currently the full charge capacity in the register is the same as the design capacity i indicated in the data memory, when will the FCC learn the true full charge capacity of my battery? what are the steps to update it to actual FCC?

  • The number of cells in series is the actual number of cells stacked in series in the battery pack. Your terminate voltage will be determined by the datasheet. We advise going to 100mV below terminate voltage at the least when characterizing cells so that you can get the full scale range of cell.

  • A single 12V/8000Ah battery we are using on our design has 6 cells (1.75V/cell) in it so is that right that I use: Number of series cells = 6? but the design capacity and the design voltage to be inputted on the data memory is for the single battery pack, Design voltage = 12000 (nominal) and Design Capacity =  8000Ah (nominal)?

  • Hi Batt,

can you also help me interpret this SOC error from the GPC. Should I retest my logs during failing SOC error? Trying to change FitMaxSOC% and FitMinSOC% still has failing deviation.

I attached my GPC Packaged zip file.

  • Your roomtemp high rate and low temp high rate have a large margin fo error. Under 5% would be OK. You can try changing the max and min range between 12 and 3%, with varying those you may get a better fit.
