LM3644: Asking for the recommendation on LM3644 design questions

Part Number: LM3644
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3560

Hi Team,

Customer is looking for flash led driver LM3644.

Would you please comment for the following questions?

  • The LM3644 SPEC is defined as the maximum current 1.5A for each channel.
Is there any limitation on the total current?
  • Can LM3644 program the current(without restart) during this period?

BR,

SHH

  • Hi SHH,

    • The LM3644 SPEC is defined as the maximum current 1.5A for each channel.
Is there any limitation on the total current?
    • The total output current is about 2.5A, the main limitation is the internal current limit and thermal;
    • Can LM3644 program the current(without restart) during this period?
    • Sure, you can change the current through I2C regs

    Regards

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

    thanks for reply.

please help for the follow up questions

    • The LM3644 SPEC is defined as the maximum current 1.5A for each channel.
Is there any limitation on the total current?
total output current is about 2.5A, the main limitation is the internal current limit and thermal.
Will TI define it in the specification?
    • Can LM3644 program the current(without restart) during this period?
Sure, through I2C register, you can change the current
Customer would like to double confirm it based on LM3644 design.
It can meet the requirement as the below scenario at torch mode.

    BR,

    SHH

  • Hi SHH,

We don't have the plan to define it on datasheet yet.

The answer is yes, you can change the torch current under torch mode.

  • Hi Sean,

    thanks for feedback.

Customer would like to know the the difference between LM3644 & LM3560.

Especially in hardware design and software control. they need to transfer from LM3560 to LM3644.

Would you please help for this comment?

    BR,

    SHH

  • Hi SHH,

If you compare the datasheet, the hardware and circuit are similiar, LM3560 is our old devices and LM3644 is new device and also support a new mode-IR mode. I suggest you read the datasheet carefully.

    Regards

    Sean

  • Hi SHH,

Did my reply has helped solved your question? Is there any other update information about your project.

    Regards

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

After checking with customer, more three questions about LM3644/LM3560 PWM controls.

    please help for comments.

     1. Could you help to describe how to change PWM dynamically ?

    2. What's the bit of resolution and method of PWM?Ex: linearity 8bit for 1.5A.

    3. What's accuracy for the driving current? I knew there would be a challenge under low current.

    BR,

    SHH

  • Hi SHH,

        1. I don't understand what is your meaning about change PWM dynamically.

        2. 7 bit for 1.5A

        3. We only have the spec for flash 1.5A, the varivation range is +/-7%. for torch  89.3mA, the varivation is +/-10%. Please refer to spec table 7.5.

    Regards

    Sean

  • Hi SHH,

Do you have any more question? I'd like to close this question if you don't hvae more question. Thanks.

    Regards
