TPS659037: 16-MHz Crystal frequency accuracy

Part Number: TPS659037

Hi TI Expert,

We do not use RTC in TPS659037.
We are not sure How much accuracy of 16-MHz Crystal frequency is required at this case(without RTC).

Shoud we refer to datasheet 4.10 "Crystal frequency tolerance" (+/- 30 ppm) ?

Now Our board, 16-MHz Crystal frequency tolerance is around -20 ppm at room temperature,
and we wonder we have to improve it or not.

  • Hi,

Yes please refer to section 4.10 of the datasheet, the given range for the crystal frequency tolerance is -30ppm min and +30ppm max. Since your board's tolerance is around -20ppm that is within the specification and should be fine. Please feel free to reach out again with any further questions.

    Thank you,

    Jadyn

  • Hi Jadyn,

Thank you for kind support !

  • Hi Jadyn,

We have additoinal question, so let us ask again.

In the worst case, if our boad's 16-MHz Crystal frequency tolerance violates specification(4.10 of the datasheet),
Can it happen that SMPSs, LODs does not work or stop regulating ? And what other problem occurr?

  • Hi,

The specifications given in the datasheet are created based on our design and validation processes, it is always recommended that you stay within specification to ensure the device will work as expected. In the event you do violate specification we cannot verify exactly what will happen since it would be a case TI has not verified. The SMPSs and LDOs should not stop regulating but may not give you the proper voltages since you will be operating out of spec. Since this may not be the case you will have to verify the accuracy of your system to ensure it works as you desire.

    Thank you,

    Jadyn

  • Hi Jadyn,

Thank you for detail explanation !
    We understand it.
