UCC5390ECDWVEVM: The relationship of UCC5390EC between Peakout drive current and load capacitor

Part Number: UCC5390ECDWVEVM

Output-Low Drive Current vs Output Voltage and Output-High Drive Current vs Output Voltage Cload=150nF  which is shown in figure 6 and 9。I want know If the Cload decreases,  the output drive current will decrease ?

Under what conditions can the output current reach 17A?

  • Hi,

Thank you for your question. I work on the applications team in the high power drivers group.

Peak output current is determined by a few things, like gate resistance, loop inductance, Cload, and temperature. We test this spec using a higher value for Cload to allow the output current value enough time to ramp to its peak. When driving a smaller Cload, the loop inductance, even with best layout practice, will be too large to allow peak current before the Cload is fully charged. Peak output current will go up as temperature goes down, due to the positive temperature coefficient of the internal MOSFET output stage.

The 17A output current is likely achieved when switching a large load with 0 Ohms external gate resistance at colder temperatures.

Feel free to read more about how this spec can be measured in the tech note linked below.
